it varies, but it works and you actually have more energy, not always weighed down by a full stomach every day. most people fast 16 , eat for 8. i do 20-4. i started almost a month ago and have lost 11 lbs

No big. I lost it over burnt chicken thighs on Friday. 200K. Spaghetti sauce last night. 100k.Who cares? Not tryna be a fasting purist. Tryna get that mirror right...

jimmie, so if you eat a little, you dont "stop" and "restart" your fast time? im no purist either, i allow myself 20 calories for coffee creamer in the am and i add lemon to my water. but if i have food, i consider my fast broken

Not sure what a "broken" fast is. Every "expert" seems to propose a different standard. The purist in me says, if it has a caloric load or produces an insulinemic response, ingesting it would "break" the fast. So yes, I break my fast every time I hork down another creamy cup of coffee or get carried away tasting the food I am cooking for others. But the dieter in me says "so what?" Assuming I make it to 2pm tomorrow, I will have gone 90 hours with ~300k (+cream), dropped all the water from my "refeed" and torched a couple pounds of fat to boot. That's a win in my book.

A fast to me has always meant ingesting no calories so I've not been able to bring myself to drink anything but water in my fasting window. BUT my head tells me that we are really striving more for an insulin response fast rather than a caloric fast. So maybe one day I'll have some coffee in the morning.

oh i totally agree that even if you're "tasting" that its still better than what you'd put into your body should you not be fasting. i consider fasting no food, and when you eat, you "break" your fast. ie: my 63 hours was no food and 46 calories (coffee&cream each morning, totalking 23 per day)

question,, if I understand the fasting, it is to get your body in ketosis right?? If this is correct then yes you may be cheating a little but since it is pure fat in the case of cream, you would be feeding into the ketosis process and not really messing anything up unless someone is a purist. cookies I would think would interfer if they have any carbs, healthy or not. But my hat is off to you all as I don't think I could handle a multiple day fast. No matter how good it is for me!

baskington, thats correct, but a true fast is still 0 cal, regardless if ketosis is sustained or not. so technically im breaking a clean fast by adding cream, a "dirty" fast allows for cream, lemon juice, etc. the rule of thumb is under 25 cal per drink. which i only do once a day (my coffee) but if i have food, i definitely consider my fast broken. because a fast is liquid only. so while i believe jimmy is doing what works for him, saying hes "extended fasting" is incorrect

If you do keto you can eat every day and lose more than 11 lbs in a month. Just sayin.. no fasting needed.

jade, i tried that before, didnt lose. fasting works for me. i dont think i have to go as long as i do sometimes, but i like that its building my willpower and shrinking my stomach, i eat way less if i do binge. the 11lbs ive lost this month only included 2 extended fasts, 34 hours and 66 hours. this one was 63.

thank you Kaylinrenee, so I guess if you have to cheat on a fast you should get out the heavy whipping cream to spoil yourself. only 1 carb to no carb. approximately 50 to 60 calories of ketosis burning fat. and I totally get where you are coming from with slow weight loss. It has taken me a while to get my body going correctly in my keto diet to actually get some of that weight off. I am sure fasting would help me, just not ready to push myself that much yet

I do keto and fast as well. For me personally, lchf makes IF a lot easier.
